Boer, Elise Marianne

Member of the Anthropology Department since Fall 2018

Courses taught: I have taught a range of courses, including Introduction to Anthropology, Medical Anthropology, Understanding the Evolution vs. Creationism Controversy, Human Evolution, Contemporary Issues, and a variety of methods courses in the social sciences, such as Introduction to the Social Sciences (ISS), Research and Qualitative Methods (RQM), and the Social Science Integrative Project (SSIP).

Biographical Information: I hold a Master’s degree with Distinction in Visual and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Manchester and the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology (GCVA), a leading centre for excellence in visual, sensory, and sound media in anthropology. There, I immersed myself into the research world of ethnographic research to explore human experiences using a still and moving camera, a recorder, and a generous dose of curiosity. Along the way, I built a toolbox packed with both classic and experimental qualitative research methods for researching, understanding, and representing human experience.  Before that, I earned an Honours BA with Great Distinction in Cultural Anthropology from Concordia University, where I first fell headfirst into the world of theory, with a particular interest in phenomenology.
